IGNTD

Jun 26, 2020

In today’s episode, I’m going to be unpacking a bit of a complicated topic. Recently, I watched the movie 13th, which shares the idea that incarceration is the new segregation and that laws are written purposefully to keep black people marginalized — and essentially, enslaved.

The place I really want to look at in regard to all of this is the addiction problem in marginalized groups and how it often ends up leading to incarceration. There are some powers at play that do not have everybody’s interests in mind, and over time, can create these huge scaled effects that are unfair. I hope you’ll join me in taking a look at this important topic.
