20 years ago I used to put almost all of my effort into looking at what wasn’t working in my life. I would always focus on the pain and the things that I couldn’t do. From this description alone, most people would consider me a “glass-half-empty” kind of guy. But the thing is: that’s not at all true. I didn’t look at the glass as half empty — I just saw empty.

The whole question of, “Are you a glass-half-full or a glass-half-empty person?” already sets us up for the wrong answer, and in turn, the wrong way to look at life. So, in today’s episode, I’m going to break down every aspect of this analogy, explain why it doesn’t work, and share how you can begin to fill up your glass with liquid — even to the point where it overflows!

If this is something that you struggle with, I hope you’ll tune in to hear how you can fill up your glass and the secret sauce to truly shifting your perspective!

[:35] About today’s special episode.

[4:03] Here’s the thing: you can only focus on one thing at a time. So you’re either looking at your glass empty or full.

[5:08] Taking a deep dive into the needs and motivations of what it is that allows us to analyze how our life is going by breaking the glass analogy up into three parts.

[6:00] The glass: the three major factors that you need to feel comfortable about to allow your glass to even hold liquid.

[8:10] The liquid in our glass: what it is made up of and how we can get more of it.

[10:43] The secret sauce: the flavor and richness of the liquid of our glass and how it is determined.

[14:52] If we want our lives to be filled with joy, fulfillment, and impact, then the whole ‘glass-half-full or glass-half-empty’ is the wrong way to look at things.

[17:15] In summary: here’s how to shift your perspective and focus on filling your glass.
